A book is a collection or set of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other materials, which are fastened together to conveniently hinge at one side. One single sheet inside a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. Today, a book produced in electronic format is known as an electronic book or an e-book. The body of all written works including books is literature. Books may also refer to works of literature, or a main division of such a work. In some works or novels, a book can also be divided into several large sections which are also called books (book 1, book 2, book 3, etc). A bookstore is where books are sold and books can be borrowed from libraries as well. A person who loves books is usually referred to as a bibliophile, or more commonly as a bookworm. When writing systems were invented in ancient civilizations, nearly everything that could be written upon—stone, clay, tree bark, and metal sheets.
Online books, or electronic books (e-books), are in an e-text that forms the digital media equivalent of a conventional printed book. Sometimes, online books are restricted with a digital rights management system. An e-book is basically an electronic version of a printed book which can be read on a personal computer or hand-held device designed specifically for this purpose. With its popularity, many online books are usually read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-Readers or e-book devices. Personal computers and some cell phones can also be used to read e-books. The ease of transferring and storing electronic files gave people the growing opportunities to not have to print all their documents, books, and writings. Earlier e-books were generally written for specialty areas and a limited audience, meant to be read only by small and devoted interest groups that included technical manuals for hardware, manufacturing techniques, and other subjects.
